How these two numbers work together: If your RAP contains 5% asphalt binder, one ton of RAP contains about 0.05 ton (100 lb) of binder. At a 100% binder credit, the calculator values all of that binder as potential virgin-binder replacement. At a 75% credit, it values only 75% of that contained binder. Lowering either number reduces the calculated RAP value per ton and the annual savings estimate.

What Makes RAP More Valuable?

The economics above depend on more than how much RAP you have. The quality and consistency of the processed material can affect how effectively it can be incorporated back into asphalt production.

    Unnecessary aggregate fracture can create additional fines and change the characteristics of the finished RAP.
